Tag Heuer Launches New Monaco Gulf Oil Special Edition Watch

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Gulf Racing Stripes, Tag Heuer has just announced a new Monaco Gulf Oil special edition watch. The Monaco series was born in 1969 and is the world’s first square waterproof self-winding chronograph. In 1971, Steve McQueen wore a photo in the ‘Le Mans’ movie, making it a classic explosion. In the film, Michael Delaney, played by Steve McQueen, is sponsored by Gulf Oil, and the racing suit and Porsche 917 are decorated with blue, white and orange stripes. In fact, the stripes came before the film in 1967.

This is not the first Gulf Oil special edition watch released by TAG Heuer, in fact this is the fourth. The first was the Monaco Vintage CW2118 watch, which came out in 2005, with a limited edition of 4,000. This watch may not be considered a member of the Gulf Oil family because the dial is decorated with ‘Monaco’ (instead of ‘Gulf Oil’) and red and blue stripes (instead of orange and light blue stripes).

Steve McQueen wears the original Tag Heuer Monaco watch in the Le Mans movie (1971).
The second model is the Monaco Gulf II CW211A watch, which came out in 2007, just before the 40th anniversary of the Gulf Racing Stripes. The third is the Monaco Gulf III CAW2113 watch, which came out in 2009 with anthracite dial and decorated with orange and light blue racing stripes. In 2010, Tag Heuer also launched a Monaco PCA watch for the Porsche Club of the United States.

Dial with Gulf Oil stripes and logo
The new Monaco Gulf Oil special edition watch is 39 mm in diameter. The stainless steel case has an iconic square shape. Equipped with Caliber 11 automatic winding movement, it can provide a 40-hour power reserve, and a date display window at 6 o’clock. Cumulative timers are set at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock, and both use rounded square design.
The biggest difference of this special edition watch is the dial color scheme-the dark navy dial is decorated with orange and light blue stripes on the right side. In addition, the watch is also equipped with a blue calfskin racing strap and decorated with orange stitching, further accentuating the theme color. Before September 15th, Tag Heuer’s new Monaco Gulf Oil Special Edition watch can be pre-ordered online for $ 5,900, equivalent to approximately RMB 39,000.

The limited edition of this model is limited to 800 pieces, which fully demonstrates the superb watchmaking skills of the Jaeger-LeCoultre workshop, and integrates modern proportions, retro design patterns and important aesthetic changes.

New watch with classic charm

The Jaeger-LeCoultre calendar series draws inspiration from the second generation of the Jaeger-LeCoultre series, which was born in 1970.It uses a unique new hand-painted surface and a blue double-graded dial, which combines the sun’s radial grain, grain and Opal decorative treatment. The central disc and the main dial are respectively added with shiny and discoloring processing effects, transitioning from darker blue-green to bright royal blue.   The Jaeger-LeCoultre Beibei Calendar keeps the Beibei’s iconic look, including slim Arabic numerals, trapezoidal hour markers and Barton hands. These parts are treated with Super-LumiNova ™ fluorescence and remain legible in dim environments. Its vanilla-tone fluorescent material pays tribute to the famous Beibei watches in the 1960s and 1970s. Nevertheless, the Jaeger-LeCoultre calendar series is an uncompromisingly modern piece. The 42-mm-diameter steel case has two striking crowns for adjusting the time. And control the rotatable inner bezel mentioned earlier. The surface of the case has been polished and hand-polished, with powerful sports performance hidden under the elegant appearance, and the waterproof depth can reach 200 meters.

The internal self-winding mechanical movement fully demonstrates Jaeger-LeCoultre’s precise technology and exquisite craftsmanship. The 899A / 1 type movement created by Jaeger-LeCoultre makes the seconds, minutes, hours and date (at the three o’clock position) Dedicated window display) function runs accurately and has a 38-hour power reserve. Four special patterns are engraved on the closed caseback, including the SCUBA diving badge, Jaeger-LeCoultre seal, and the words ‘1000HOURSCONTROL’ (1000 hours test), which means that after the watch is assembled, it will take 1000 hours to test before leaving the Swiss valley Jaeger-LeCoultre workshop and the words ‘Limitededition—Oneof800’ (limited to 800 pieces) on the edge of the bottom cover.

Evolving tradition

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Calendar series is the latest masterpiece of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Collection, inspired by the iconic Memovox Polar Alarm Clock. This historical model was developed specifically for the US market and continued to be produced between 1965 and 1968. The prototype of the classic Memovox Polar Alarm Watch provided the diver with a revolutionary underwater loudspeaker alarm function, which is still regarded today as synonymous with adventure and technological innovation. In addition, the watch’s ingenious and chic design style is also highly respected: a three-layer concentric dial layout, a rotating inner bezel and a multi-crowned case. The new Jaeger-LeCoultre collection respects the original visual design elements to pay homage to the prototype watch, and the watch has been more modern in design, including shorter lugs, a slimmer bezel, and an ergonomic crown And sapphire crystal.

It’s A Good Voice To Pass The President’s Level Patek Philippe Ref.5178g

Ref.5178G technical characteristics:
● Three questions function
● Church bells
● Enamel face plate
The most important questionnaire is sound evaluation and testing. In order to pass the test, the minute repeater needs to be debugged and tried repeatedly until it reaches a perfect sound. To this end, PatekPhilippe has specially developed a system that emphasizes that every link of production must be documented, including the final sound test. Patek Philippe has established a three-question timepiece analysis technology internally to enable its watchmaking team to analyze with charts. The brand has also hired experts responsible for acoustic analysis, and recorded and compared the acoustic charts through recording. In this way, Patek Philippe can gradually build up a sound database, and store all the sounds of the minute repeater timepieces through the chart data. And this acoustic expert will work with the watchmaker to create a complex function table of timepieces, and this technology will also help the minute repeater to show the perfect sound to pass the president’s approval.
Classical
Patek Philippe 5178G uses a white gold material to create a case with a diameter of 40mm. The face plate part is made of enamel material, with gold and three-dimensional Breguet digital body. At 6 o’clock there is a small seconds dial. On the whole, the appearance alone is classic and full of taste, and many people think of this watch.
Church bells more pleasing than usual
In terms of movement, the 5178G is equipped with an R 27 PS self-winding movement, which is equipped with a three-question function at the top of watchmaking technology. In fact, a set of minute repeaters requires hundreds of unique and nearly perfect parts to assemble. In the past, the minute repeater function device has been required to be highly skilled in pocket watches, while the device is more complicated in the more compact watches, because all the parts that are very small in size must be reduced to smaller. In order to improve the clock, Patek Philippe has long collaborated with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Switzerland and the Geneva Institute of Technology to study the proportion of various alloys to optimize the sound quality of the watch. This self-winding minute repeater watch uses the ‘church bell’ The timepiece gong is characterized by the fact that the length of the gong is twice that of an ordinary gong, so that the tone is thicker and louder.

Feature one: traditional lever starting device

The lever on the left side of the case is an important part to activate the minute repeat function, and it is also a clue to identify the complex technology of its top watch.

Feature 2: Sound quality needs to be identified by the brand president

Each Patek Philippe questionnaire needs to pass the quality control of the brand president himself before leaving the factory to ensure that the level of the questionnaire obtained by the owner is first-rate.

Feature three: making difficult enamel surface

In the process of milky white enamel surface plate, it is necessary to repeat the coloring-high temperature baking cycle repeatedly to obtain the beautiful enamel finished product that is always new.

Feature four: Double gong length

The 5178G is equipped with an R 27 PS movement. The gong in its three-question unit is twice as long as a normal watch, so it can play a louder tone.
